Rumored Haunted Savannah Hotel

The Marshall House's history is very conducive to ghost stories. Since opening in 1851, the hotel has been used as a hospital three times: once by the Union Army during the Civil War, and twice for yellow fever epidemics during the 19th Century. Our guests and visitors have a lot of fun with the hotel's haunted reputation.

Rumors and reports include guests seeing ghosts in the hallways and foyers, hearing children running down the long, narrow halls late at night, faucets turning on by themselves, and much more. Because it is rumored to be a haunted hotel in Savannah, The Marshall House has been featured several times on the Travel Channel's haunted hotel programs and specials.

Mary Marshall is still here...in a portrait painted by Peter Laurens in 1830. The portrait currently hangs behind the front desk, so Mary greets every guest at check-in. The painting was purchased from the Estate of Jim Williams, a well known Savannah preservationist and antiques dealer made famous by the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
